My brother in law suffered from mental problems when he stopped eating and continued his statin drug for high cholesterol. The brain needs cholesterol and he suffered severe depression when he stopped eating food and continued the powerful statin drugs.
Although people eating a well-balanced vegan diet are among the healthiest in the world, some people have issues transitioning to this diet. Some fail to eat enough legumes and whole grains. Or they may fail to eat leafy greens.
Do you caution friends about making radical diet changes?
1) Vitamin and mineral deficiency, causing skin, hair, and nail problems.
2) Blood sugar problems.
3) The risk of developing an eating disorder.
And yes, I do tell people the risks. I have an eating disorder, and in a year I’ll be a nurse. I’m not that underweight, 100 lbs. at 5′ 6.5". I do suffer from common problems: Difficulty falling and staying asleep, obsessing over food and calories, purging my food via exercise. It’s exhausting.
